My Top Ten Corporate Security Threats

by: Hugo Harber

Security threats are more than just a distraction. An attack directed at financial or personal records or business-critical applications is potentially devastating. But even indiscriminate attacks can result in the loss of valuable data, high repair costs, negative publicity, legal liability and the loss of hours or even days of productivity. Security vulnerabilities don’t do much for company’s reputations, either. Here are my top ten corporate security threats:

  1. Human error
  2. Complacency
  3. Disgruntled employees
  4. Viruses and Malware
  5. Email
  6. USB memory sticks
  7. Unauthorised modems
  8. 3rd party connections
  9. Laptops, portable devices, which expose data in a public environment
  10. Hackers
