Star helps next generation of artists brush up their skills

Youngsters from across Gloucestershire get recycled arts and craft materials from local business Star.

Gloucester, 20.12.2007 - With companies and communities more focused than ever on helping the environment, a local business ISP, Star, has ensured that following a company-wide rebrand, old promotional materials (brochures, clothing, freebies etc.) haven’t gone to waste.  The company is working with The Gloucestershire Resource Centre to ensure it donates all out of date materials to local schools for use in art, craft and design lessons.

Star’s Marketing Director Toby Newman explains, “It was important for us to recycle as much of our old promotional material as possible, rather than sending them to landfill.  While the items were obsolete for business purposes because they contained our old branding, we felt that they would still have a value to someone.  The Gloucestershire Resource Centre has helped us to locate them.

“Star has always been a significant part of the local community, and we see this as not only a way to help protect the local environment, but also to give something back to the local community.”

More than 1000 community organisations from across Gloucestershire receive supplies from the Resource Centre.  Lin Mathews, Managing Director at Gloucestershire Resource Centre, explains it provides a more sustainable way for companies to dispose of unwanted materials and equipment.  “Companies like Star, who work with us to promote re-use of their waste materials, are making a tremendous contribution to their local community.  By working together, we’re able to help local companies support local good causes while raising awareness about the importance of sustainable ways of disposing of unwanted items.”
