UK ISPs costing SMB economy millions every year

Failure to invest in new internet-driven offerings is costing UK SMBs dear!

Gloucester, February 2008:  UK Internet Service Providers (ISP) are failing to invest in products and services designed specifically to help small and medium-sized businesses, according to a recent survey.  This has left UK SMBs forced to choose between ill-fitting consumer and expensive Enterprise solutions for email, hosting and security.

The survey, conducted for Star Technology Services Limited shows that 75% of people responsible for IT and Internet activities in UK SMBs feel that ISPs have failed to invest - both financially and in terms of innovation - in developing products and services that help them maximise the power of the Internet.

Ben White, CEO of all-SMB ISP Star Technologies explains, “SMBs make up 98% of all businesses in the UK - and as a result, a significant proportion of GDP - but it appears that they are currently being woefully neglected by IT and Internet Service providers.  The UK economy is suffering to the tune of millions of pounds every year.

“Our survey shows that while many of the big-brand providers play lip-service to small and medium-sized businesses, the sentiment is not matched by the delivery of real solutions to every day business challenges.  With the economic outlook for 2008 forecast to be challenging, the Internet needs to be the lifeblood for SMBs – helping them extend their sales reach, deliver operational efficiencies and add value to their marketing activities.”
