On 9th October 2008 Symantec announced its intention to acquire MessageLabs. The acquisition of MessageLabs, originally born out of Star, marks a significant milestone in Star's history and demonstrates the success of the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model for security and Star's innovation pedigree. |
Ben White, founder of both companies, has assured customers that this news will not change the level of service which Star has been delivering since MessageLabs was founded. The MessageLabs malware team will remain focused on providing you with market leading accuracy against every new and unknown threat. Their 24/7 global support team will continue to support Star as an integral part of our services. |
Ben White commented "The acquisition presents a great opportunity for two leading companies to join together and take the adoption of security SaaS to the next level by building on MessageLabs' pioneering innovation to introduce the next generation of threat protection and information management services. Today, cloud-based computing is widely accepted as the de facto norm by which applications like email will be delivered to the desktop of the future. Having been at the bleeding edge of technology with MessageLabs, I'm now turning my attention to the next wave of innovation which, I predict, will be focused around the growth of managed network services in the SME sector." |
The sale of MessageLabs to Symantec is great news for Star. Star was founded in 1995 and in 1998 invented Internet-level virus scanning which ultimately created MessageLabs. Star de-merged from MessageLabs in 2007 to focus on future technology development and tailor its services specifically for small and mid-sized businesses. However, Star continues to be MessageLabs largest global partner. |
Star is immensely proud of MessageLabs achievement; it is testament to its ongoing commitment to provide innovative, integrated business-ready technology services to businesses throughout the UK. This announcement provides tremendous opportunities for Star, and going forward we will continue to innovate and invest in technology which delivers first class services to customers and partners.
