Immediate improvement in productivity from enhanced communications
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM, 14 JUNE 2010 – Star, a provider of on-demand computing and communication services for UK businesses, today announced that Trans Global Freight Management Ltd (“TGFML”), one of the UK’s leading independent international freight forwarding companies, has chosen Star’s fully managed network service to help simplify the company’s technical architecture and reduce costs.
Star provides a secure connection to all of TGFML’s offices locations to promote collaboration and improve business resilience. TGFML now has the ability to build a private network over a public infrastructure, so they no longer need expensive leased lines at each office.
Like most organisations who bought into leased lines, TGFML found their previous network old and costly and no longer appropriately served their needs. The company employs almost 200 personnel in 12 locations, but frustratingly had been experiencing delays in connecting to the various sites. It was imperative to find a way that allowed the company to benefit from a private network, without investing in expensive security firewalls at each of the offices. Most of the company’s remote offices now enjoy a fast connection to a Star data centre, and although the solution is fully managed on behalf of the customer, TGFML has the ability to manage some key elements of the solution themselves should they need to, which provides them with a high level of flexibility that is required in their business.
David Carpentier, IT Manager at Trans Global Freight Management, commented, “I have been impressed with the implementation of the project and ease with which we have moved to the new managed service from Star. Since it was all planned adequately in advance we did not have to deal with many problems. With Star’s help we limited the potential for any major issues or outages at any of our numerous sites. We can now run voice and data simultaneously over the same network without any problems and we do not have to worry about server redundancy.”
Grant Tanner, Business Development Director at Star added, “We are extremely pleased to be working with an international brand such as Trans Global Freight Management. Having the right communications solution is critical for every business in order to ensure they are able to carry out key business processes and agile enough to react to changes, especially the challenges of expansion in a multi-site environment. However, the best communication solution on its own without being backed up by enterprise grade security is almost as bad as having no solution at all. Star has hundreds of UK customer deployments that connect multiple offices, while offering better levels of data security that our customers could hope to achieve on their own.”
