Department
Internal IT Services is the Internal IT department responsible for the delivery, support and implementation of the infrastructure, applications and desktop productivity tools required to manage the company.
Dimensions
- Reporting to the Development Manager
- Working as part of an agile team to provide research, implementation, support and maintenance of packaged and bespoke software applications and components.
- Must liaise with multiple business functions including engineering, operations, service delivery, product management, finance, sales and marketing teams.
Principle Accountabilities
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for:
- Researching new technologies and methodologies in software engineering.
- Interacting with business users and customers to assist in the scoping and creation of specifications for requests for development.
- Developing quality software applications and modules in accordance with industry best practice.
- Assisting with user acceptance testing of solutions.
- Supporting applications delivered by the Internal IT Department.
- Providing regular status and progress reports to the Development Team Leader
- Mentoring for more junior members of the development team.
- Acting as primary point of contact for the developer team to other business functions, including management.
- Assist in the distribution of work with the team, and reporting to management on the progress of work items.
- Demonstrations of project progress to project-sponsors, users and professional peers.
- Assisting in the development of team process and ensuring adherence to those processes.

- Enhance the ability of the Development team to deliver business functionality.
- Provide agile project development capability.
- Provide issue escalation.
- Delivery of projects on time with agreed levels of functionality and quality.
Profile of Job Holder
Essential
- Demonstrable experience of building and supporting desktop and distributed systems.
- Strong commercial experience of Microsoft web development technologies including but not limited to C#, web parts, Windows Communication Foundation, Windows Workflow Foundation.
- Strong commercial experience of web client technologies, including but not limited to JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Able to demonstrate first hand experience of industry Best Practice development process.
Desirable
- Educated to HND level or equivalent in a business or technology related subject and substantial experience in development
- Commercial experience of the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Sharepoint; both as an end user and at the application programming level
- Knowledge of database architecture and design principles, including experience of SQL and stored procedures within SQL Server and Oracle
- Knowledge of network infrastructure and impact on application delivery
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to lead a development team to deliver projects
- Enthusiasm and ability to work with minimum supervision in an agile environment with tight deadlines.
